Volunteers Week sees new Volunteer Co-ordinator!

Forth Valley Sensory Centre is marking the start of Volunteers Week with the appointment of a new Volunteer Co-ordinator. Caroline Storey is looking forward to continuing the recruitment drive for new volunteers and helpers at the Centre which supports people with a sensory impairment across the Forth Valley.

A former diversity officer, Caroline is a BSL speaker which has already proven popular with the deaf community who use the Centre. She has a great deal of experience in working with people who have a range of different needs, not only managing sensory conditions, but looking to be independent, learn, try new things and live as independently as possible.

Centre Manager Jacquie Winning said:
“Many of our groups and events take place outside the Centre and it is our aim to help everyone in Forth Valley who has a sensory condition get the support they need to live as independently as possible.

“Caroline has a wealth of experience in this area and has been a volunteer herself. She knows what volunteers look for and will continue to develop what we offer both for volunteers and for Centre Users.”

Commenting on her appointment, Caroline said:
“I wanted to work for the Sensory Centre because I know the Centre is a vibrant place that provides much needed support and services to the community.  I have been a volunteer for many different organisations and was keen to take on the role of Volunteer Co-ordinator.

“I have already been made very welcome by the team and by service users and am very excited about developing the volunteer role.  I am very much looking forward to recruiting new volunteers and supporting existing ones to help deliver the wide range of activities that the Centre provides.”

Volunteers Week celebrates all that is positive about volunteering and the Centre has a number of volunteer opportunities available from driving, to event support, sighted guiding and BSL support for those wanting to improve their skills.

In return, expenses are paid, young people can undertake their Saltire Award and the Centre offers references for successful placements. The aim is to provide a rewarding volunteer experience which develops new skills and aids further training or employment if desired.
