You may know that David, our cook and self-defence instructor is Mr Safe. Whether it is making sure he uses his special ‘ninja glove’ in the kitchen to protect his fingers from knives or learning a new martial art technique being safe and confident is what David is all about.
His next course at the Centre starts on Friday 4th August at 2pm but there is a great srticle on the RNIB website here which covers some top tips and gives you a flavour of some of the things covered.
The course was developed by Alan at The Scottish Centre for Personal Safety with help from Scottish War Blinded another partner here in the Centre, plus a few special techniques with the cane that David helped bring to the class.
After the first sessions have been completed, David has refined the lessons and will be continuing to work with attendees to make sure they get as much as possible from the eight week course. The overall aim is to give people some simple tools to be more confident when out and about and to live as independently as possible.
The class is open to anyone who wants to attend, there is no need to have a sensory condition so if anyone would like to bring along a sighted or hearing friend then that would be more than welcome!
Contact sensory@forthvalleysensorycentre.org for more information or to sign up.
