Our Sensory Singers are looking to get back into the swing of things and need a new choir leader to help them do it. If you want to help our would be warblers, then please get in touch.
This is a paid position and while the position is a choir leader, our Sensory Singers are more about the joy of singing than trying to be pitch perfect. The group is made up of blind, partially sighted, deaf and hard of hearing people. Several read lyrics in braille.
However, if you have no experience of working with people who have sensory loss, fear not, full training will be given, what is more important is energy, enthusiasm and a willingness to help everyone join in an activity they love.
Groups and activities coordinator, Linsey Stocks said:
“The Sensory Singers are more than a group. They have been one of the best ambassadors for the Centre in recent years, providing Christmas concerts at local supermarkets and other events as well as entertaining Centre Users.
“Sadly after the pandemic, our Choir Leader has decided to step down but we know the group is raring to go. They are in it for the fun and enjoy performing together. If you can match their enthusiasm, then we would love to hear from you.”
The group has traditionally met on a Monday morning, fortnightly for two hours. It would be preferable for this to continue but is open to negotiation.
Typical music is traditional Scottish songs, Christmas Carols and festive tunes as well as songs from popular 60s and 70’s bands like ABBA.
You can see a clip of some of our singers practising The Island Spinning Song here:
So, if this has stuck a chord with you then you’ll want to note how to pitch for the role. Contact Linsey Stocks by email linseystocks@forthvalleysensorycentre.org or by phone on 01324 590 888 with your credentials or for more information.
New Singers are always welcome too so if you’d like to join, please contact Linsey!
