Celebrating Sign Language Week

This week, 12th to the 18th March 2018 is British Sign Language week. Organised by British Deaf Association, this is the fourth annual Sign Language Week and this year, the theme is pride!

What makes you proud? Is it using BSL? Is it simply being part of the tight knit Deaf community? Maybe it is knowing another language if you are hearing or perhaps it is something else in your personal orprofessional life. No matter what, the British Deaf Association wants to know “what makes you proud?”

To let them know, make a short film and upload it to the Sign Language Week website here. Remember to use your phone horizontally (not vertical) so that it fits on the screen correctly and shows off your BSL skills. Your video will be uploaded to the ‘Hall of Fame’ on the website.

There are also a wide range of events and activities taking place through the week, including a ‘Taste Your Future’ event right here at Forth Valley Sensory Centre on Tuesday 13th March. See the contact us page for how to find us if you are coming along!

The big event takes place in Derby on 18th March and is open to everyone free of charge, although we appreciate the travel involved from Scotland! Still, there will be all sorts of talks and activities, details of which can be found on the website above.

Remember we also have our Voices off Cafe on Wednesday mornings at 11am for anyone who wants to come along and learn some basic BSL. All welcome!
