Yesterday, 23rd December, Jacquie and Martin from the Centre, along with seven of our Centre Users, met with two of the children who caused the damage to our garden back in October.
After consulting with PC McInnes from Forth Valley Police and Centre Users, we decided we would pursue ‘restorative justice’ allowing those involved to meet our Centre Users and hear for themselves the impact the garden has on their lives as well as those of other people in the community.
Both children were accompanied by their father who wanted his children to learn the lesson from their escapade.
Both had written letters explaining what they had done and apologising profusely, leaving a donation from a sale of their toys towards the cost of fixing the damage.
Needless to say, those present felt that the process was worthwhile and both children were commended for facing up to the consequences of their actions. It was also good to see their father being so keen to make sure that justice was done.
The apology was accepted by all. Hands were shaken and hugs given out. At this time of year, there should be a spirit of forgiveness and redemption and we do now consider the matter closed.
We look forward to our works in the garden in the New Year and we will keep everyone informed of how the work is progressing. Thank you again to everyone who supported us, donated or offered help to get things back on track.
Merry Christmas,
Centre Staff.
