Our Personal Safety and Self Defence Classes with David return on Friday April 12th 1pm-2pm. Open to all ages and abilities, the course is free and you will learn a wide range of techniques to help you avoid conflict or get out of a escalating situation.
This is a course developed by The Scottish Centre for Personal Safety and has particular elements for people with sight loss although all the techniques can work for anyone at all.
The class mixes advice on the law, what you can and cannot do to protect yourself, in a given situation, with practical self defence tips on avoiding threatening situations as well as what to do if someone attacks you.
In the clip below, our cook and also volunteer for The Scottish Centre for Personal Safety, David, demonstrates the cane defence technique. This is a later part of the course but is one of the many things you will learn to help you stay safe if you join the classes.
Self Defence – Cane Technique
The Personal Safety and Self Defence classes run for an eight week block. If you have any questions about the content or suitability of the course, please get in touch and we will be happy to answer them.
The classes have now been running for some time but new people as well as returning members are always welcome.
This is a chance to learn personal safety and self defence techniques in a safe, relaxed environment with a tutor who understands the challenges of sight loss and what it can be like as an independent disabled person.
The course is design to boost confidence and self esteem, providing a ‘toolkit’ of self defence methods if the worst happens, as unlikely as that may be!
