Zip it for Deaf Awareness Week

Deaf Awareness Week takes place between 15th and 21st May. At the Centre we are going to ‘zip it for an hour’ with a sponsored silence so that people can understand what it is like when you can’t hear another person’s voice.

Why not consider doing something similar on behalf of the Centre in your home or workplace? We’d be delighted to publicise your efforts!

Parnetship Manager Martin Allen said:

“Deaf Awareness Week is an important date in the calendar for many of our Centre Users. It covers the whole range of hearing loss from profoundly deaf to people who have become deafened or experenced hearing problems through illness or later in life, often as a result of being employed in a loud environment.

“It can be very difficult for this community to interact with organisations and businesses in the same way most of us take for granted. Why not show you are listening to the deaf community and support our Centre at the same time? We can even arrange for basic BSL lessons and provide advice and tips on assisting customers with hearing loss.”

The Centre got their sponsorship off to a great start with a £50 donation from the BSL group which meets at the Centre every Wednesday. A huge thanks to all those who helped!
