Over 200 visitors in four hours of fun! Forth Valley Sensory Centre raised £1900 during the Winter Fayre which took place on 3rd December. The money, the largest total ever, was gratefully received and has already been ear marked for developing a number of new services and groups within the Centre.
For the first time ever, the Winter Fayre made use of the Sensory Garden with activities for a younger audience. Santa paid a visit and his elves were kept busy decorating Christmas baubles and painting other tree decorations as well as balloon animals and face painting.
Inside the Centre, raffles, tombola and a wide variety of stalls ensured there were plenty of things for adults to enjoy while entertainment was provided by the Sensory Singers, a group made up of visual and hearing impaired vocalists who sing purely for the enjoyment of music.
The event was run to coincide with the first Camelon Community Festival too, which saw rides and food stalls out on the Centre car park.
Lynne Frail, Fundraising Co-ordinator said:
“People look forward to our Winter Fayre every year but this was the biggest, most ambitious one in our ten year history. Opening up the garden gave us room to put on different activities and thanks to our army of volunteers we were able to put on a fantastic event for all the family.”
The event was supported by Lightways, Boots, Morrisons, Falkirk Roundtable, Falkirk Delivers, Mitie and DWP.
Lynne Frail added:
“Volunteers came from all over Falkirk to help out. Without them we couldn’t put on an event like this and we owe a huge thanks to everyone, especially DWP staff, who were there not only on the day but also in the build up to the event.
“It was a lot of hard work but a fantastic amount of money has been raised which will continue to develop the services we are able to offer here at the Centre. We’ll just have to try even harder next year to top this feat but look out for more activities through the year.”
