We’re gearing up for our much anticipated Winter Fayre, coming very soon on 2nd December. It should be a fun filled day, taking place from 11am-2pm, we will have stalls, food, and even a performance from our choir from 12.30pm. The cafe will also still be open to the public. Hope to see you there!
On Monday we have a special visit from Vivienne Malcolm from Solicitors for Older People, she will be running an drop in centre for people who would like advice on will-writing and powers of attorney. Some people might not be aware that in Scotland many will qualify to have their Wills and Powers of Attorney prepared FOR FREE under the Scottish Legal Aid Board’s Advice and Assistance scheme. Vivienne will be with us from 10am-2pm.
The Lip Reading Peer Support Group will be meeting from 11am-1pm, this is a laidback group of ladies who like to meet and practice their lip reading.
Our Knit and Natter Group is back from 1pm-3pm. We are finishing off our knitted items in preparation for our stall at the Winter Fayre, so look out for goodies from this group coming very soon! This group is open to complete beginners or dab hands, and is testament to the fact you can still knit even with no vision at all! This group is open to all, and an interpreter is provided. No Group cost, but refreshments can be purchased from the cafe and eaten at the group.
Voices Off British Sign Language Class is on this evening from 6.30pm-7.30pm. This class is open to everyone who might like to learn or practice British Sign Language. For more information or to register your interest please contact Allan at allan.simpson@falkirk.gov.uk.
On Tuesday our Book Group will be meeting to discuss their latest read, The Pearl Locket by Katherine McGurl. Keep an eye out on Social Media for the groups’ review. Our read for December will be Small Pleasures by Clare Chambers. We source our books from RNIB Talking Books and local Library Services.
The IT Classes are running on their usual sessions. These run Tuesday 1pm-3pm and 3pm-5pm, Thursday 1pm-3pm (college only, this class is closed to new interest at present), and Friday 1pm-3pm. We will have spaces on our Tuesday and Friday classes for anyone who would like to learn more about computers, tablets and phones and their accessibility features. Class costs £5 for fully supported expert tutelage. Interpreter can be provided on request.
The BSL OAP Group will be back in for their usual session from 12.30pm-2.30pm.
Thursday the Braille Class will return from 10.30am-12pm. This class is led by tutor Christine Moroney and runs weekly term time.
We are a part of the Open Doors Event today at Tamfourhill Community Hub from 10am-1pm, our very own Sara and Laura will be there, so why not pop in for a visit! Tea and Coffee will be available for free from the centre.
The Braveheart Group will be leaving the centre for their usual walk from the centre at 11.30am on Friday. This is a leisurely walk around the local area that lasts approx 45-60 minutes with the option to pop into Cafe Tiki for some lunch and a cuppa afterwards. Sighted Guides provided if necessary.
Our Youth Group is back this Friday from 6pm-7.15pm! Laura Kemp from Youth Scotland will be joining us once again for more fun and games! This group is open to P7-S6 pupils, if you are D/deaf or have sight loss or are the friend or family of someone with D/deafness or sight loss then this is the group for you!
The Friday Deaf Club meets on Friday for their usual session from 7pm-10pm.
