What’s On W/C 16th May

We’re hitting the ground running this week, with a whopping five groups and classes being back on Monday alone! 

First we have our Choir back after a three week break, the Sensory Singers will be in from 10.30am-12pm. The sensory singers are a social singing group that is open to new members, sessions cost £5 and are led by Choir Leader Aimee Toshney. 

Next up we have our Knit and Natter group will be meeting from 1pm-3pm on Monday afternoon. This group is open to all ages and abilities (or even those that would rather just have a natter!) No group cost, but refreshments can be purchased from the cafe.

Jill will be back with another lip reading class from 4.30pm-6.30pm. These classes are open to anyone, though they can be particularly helpful for people who have lost their hearing in some capacity or might have audio processing issues. If you’d like to learn more about lip reading or if you’d like to sign up for future sessions please get in touch. 

Monday Voices Off class happens this evening from 6.30-7.30pm. This is a weekly, conversational British Sign Language class that is open to anyone who would like to learn some basic BSL. Please contact Allan for more information on spaces at allan.simpson@falkirk.gov.uk.

The Talk and Sign Group will be back in the café for their May meeting from 7pm-9pm. This month we will be working with Art Tutor Val Martin doing two different kinds of weaving! This group meets on the third Monday monthly and participates in a range of social activities. 

On Tuesday the Book Group will be back for their next hybrid session. Though some join us in person from 10am-11am, there is also the option to join us via zoom. This month we will be discussing the classic Pride and Prejudice! Look out for the Book Group’s thoughts later this week. This group meets on the third Tuesday of the month, reads a variety of different books, and sources reading material from RNIB talking books and Falkirk Libraries. 

The IT classes are on Tuesday at 1pm-3pm and 3pm-5pm, Thursday 1pm-3pm, and Friday 1pm-3pm. There are still spaces on our Tuesday and Friday classes, so if you are interested in learning more about IT, including accessibility around tablets and phones, please get in touch we still have spaces in our Tuesday and Friday classes. Classes cost £5.

The BSL OAP Group will be meeting for their usual session on Wednesday between 12.30pm and 2.30pm.

The FVSC led ‘Voices Off’ Cafe for learning and practicing basic BSL is back on Thursday from 11am-12.30pm. This is led by volunteers and supported by FVSC staff, the group meets fortnightly and is always open to new participants. 

The Braille Group will also return from holiday this week on Thursday from 10am-12pm. This is a college led class. If you are interested in learning more about learning to read and write braille please contact us on the information below. 

The Braveheart Association still have their weekly walk which meets at the Sensory Garden every Friday at 11.30am. This is open to all, and is a leisurely walk around the local area that lasts around 45-60 minutes. 

On Friday our Youth Group will be back for their weekly evening sessions from 6pm-7.15pm where we will be having a dance lesson with Lauren Christie Dance! This group is open to p7-S6 pupils with sensory loss and their siblings/friends. Get in touch for more information. 

The Deaf Club will be back to their usual slot from 7pm-10pm on Friday too!
