What’s on w/c 10th October

It might be the school holidays but things are very much still lively here at the centre! Some of our college classes are off for this week but the rest of our groups are still a go! As always our Café is open to the public Monday-Friday 9am-3pm so why not pop along for a nice warming bowl of soup (made fresh in house every day) and some cake!

On Monday our choir is back, we will be back in our usual rooms of Hall 2 & 3 this week from 10.30am-12pm. Sessions cost £5 for expert tutelage from Choir Leader Aimee Toshney. This is a laidback singing group open to all and enjoy singing a variety of different songs.

Voices Off is taking a holiday for the Monday session this week. If are interested in coming along to future sessions please contact Allan at allan.simpson@falkirk.gov.uk.

Please note that there are no IT Classes this week as Tom is off on a well-deserved holiday with it being half term! Classes will return next week. In the meantime if you are interested in learning more about computers, tablets and phones and their accessibility features please get in touch.

Tuesday sees the meeting of our monthly Stirling Outreach Social Group. Meeting at the Bellfield Centre from 11am-1pm, we will be welcoming Neil Forsyth from Police Scotland who will be telling us about scams and fraud awareness that we should all be mindful of as scams change with the times particularly with rising fuel prices and the cost of living crisis. Not to be all doom and gloom however, we do have tea, coffee and biscuits available! This group is a social group for people with a sight loss and meet on the second Tuesday of the month from our new base at the Bellfield centre.

On Wednesday our History Group will be meeting here at the centre from 11am-12pm. We will be welcoming along Greenhill Historical Society on the topic of Smith and Wellstood, they might even bring us along some artefacts to let us have a handling session! This group meets on the second Wednesday of every month, and is open to all.  An interpreter is provided for these sessions.

The BSL OAP Group will be back in for their usual session from 12.30pm-2.30pm.

 Also on Wednesday our Art Group is back from 1.15pm-3.15pm. Classes run fortnightly, cost £5 per session which includes provision of materials and expert tutelage from the lovely Val Martin. This group does a range of arts and crafts, many with tactile elements for people with sight loss, however this group is open to anyone who would like to unleash their inner artist!

The centre led Voices Off British Sign Language class is on this week as well, from 11am-12.30pm. This free class is volunteer led and gives participants a chance to learn and practice British Sign Language. This class runs fortnightly and is open to all.

Please note the Braille Class will also be off this week due to the October break.

The Braveheart Group will be leaving the centre for their usual walk from the centre at 11.30am on Friday. This is a leisurely walk around the local area that lasts approx 45-60 minutes with the option to pop into Cafe Tiki for some lunch and a cuppa afterwards. Sighted Guides provided if necessary.

Also on Friday evening the Youth Group will be back from 6pm-7.15pm. This group engages in a range of different activities. From P7-S6, if you are D/deaf or have sight loss or are the friend or family of someone with D/deafness or sight loss then this is the group for you!

The Friday Deaf Club meets on Friday for their usual session from 7pm-10pm.
