Our popular Voices Off Cafe has returned! If you want to learn a new language, what about British Sign Language? This free class will teach you basic signs and skills and, you get to learn from members of the Deaf community!
Tea and Coffee is available (suggested £1 donation) and the class takes places every fortnight, 11am-12pm on a Thursday. Check our What’s On Guide for specific dates.
This is a fun, informal and social class and is open to anyone. Perhaps you have a deaf friend or colleague and would like to communicate more? Maybe you are struggling with hearing loss and would like to learn to sign to support your communication? Or it might just be that you want to learn a new skill.
Whatever the reason, you’ll be made welcome. This is not a graded or certificated class so total beginners are welcome and there is no pressure to turn up to each session, pop along when you can (although regular practice makes perfect!).
Voices Off is also supported by our Deaf Centre Users. Cathy Carmichael is a regular supporter and is a native BSL speaker so you know you are learning from the best!
Groups and Activities Coordinator Linsey Stocks said:
“One of our most common questions is about BSL classes, where they are or if we do them! So the answer is a resounding yes.
“It also fits in well with many of our other groups for people with hearing impairments. We have out lip reading class thursday, 4:30pm-6:30pm and our monthly Tinnitus Support Group, taking place on the first Tuesday of each month, 12pm-1pm so there is lots of help and support out there.”
An evening Voices Off also takes place each week on a Monday night 6:30pm-7:30pm. This is organised by Allan Simpson and Stephen Joyce from Falkirk Council. Contact allan.simpson@falkirk.gov.uk to ‘sign’ up or for more details! £1 donation for your tea and coffee again!

What days is the BSL course on ?

Hi
I’m really keen on learning BSL, I’m working in a care home and feel it would greatly benefit me at residents, I’ve always been interested in it
