Volunteer Vacancies – Forth Valley Sensory Centre

We currently have two volunteer vacancies within the centre. There is no need to have previous experience of working with people who have a sensory impairment; appropriate training will be given where needed, such as sighted guidance training.

Currently we are looking for a Volunteer Receptionist, and a volunteer to assist with our Stirling Blind and Partially sighted group. Below you will find the role profiles, time commitments and person specification.

A PVG check is required for both of these roles.

What We Do

The Centre was the first of its kind constructed in the UK and specifically developed for people with a sensory condition and helping them to live as independently as possible. There are 6 Partner Organisations covering both Statutory and Voluntary Sectors based within the Centre.

Forth Valley Sensory Centre also provides a programme of added value services including a wide range of social groups and activities for people with a sensory impairment.

The Centre has a café serving organic fair trade coffee and tea, a sensory garden and a sensory room, which are open to all.

Volunteer Vacancies – Receptionist

What’s involved

This role is to assist with lunch time cover for reception

Answering the phone and taking messages

Welcoming people who come into the Centre

Taking bookings for room hire

Letting other staff or services know when their appointment has arrived

Registering people who come in for the Sensory Room

Time Commitments

We are looking for various slots to be covered and would ask for a minimum commitment of 2 hours per week

lunchtime cover (12-2) – Tuesdays or Fridays

Last Wednesday of the month from 10.00-11.30am to cover for team meeting

Volunteer Vacancies – Stirling Group

What’s involved

The group is a social group for blind and partially sighted people in Stirling, typical tasks are to:

Support the group to organise monthly social meetings

Engage the group members in conversation

Escorting on the minibus – assisting people on and off the minibus

Help to provide light refreshments

To act as a Sighted Guide for outings (training given)

To assist with any transport arrangements or issues

Time Commitments

A Minimum of 5hrs once a month. The group meets the 2nd Tuesday of the month

Location

The group meets at the Mayfield Community Centre, Stirling.

Transport can be provided from the Sensory Centre in Falkirk to Stirling on the day.
