Ever wondered what motivates someone to volunteer or what it might be like to volunteer at the Centre? Well wonder no more, here is ace volunteer Margaret Howie, discussing her experiences.
Margaret was speaking to volunteer coordinator Caroline Storey (and we know her screen locks up). It is a great insight into one of our longest serving volunteers and a “well kent face” at the Centre.
Not only do we mind out more about volunteering, and the benefits, (which are proven to be many) but also a bit more about Margaret herself.
This is a lovely light hearted look at how we can all work together and help each other. It also shows the breadth of opportunities we normally have on offer but which were put on hold due to Coronavirus.
Our groups and classes are at the core of what we do here at Forth Valley Sensory Centre, giving people with sensory loss the chance to socialise, meet friends old and new as well as get the support they need to live confident, independent lives.
Caroline added:
“Right now having a chance to talk to friends, even virtually, is really important to people’s wellbeing. However, it does mean we have had less opportunities for volunteers, drivers, guides and a whole manner of different types of support. That is difficult as we know that volunteering adds just as much in terms of wellbeing for volunteers as it does for Centre Users.
“Of course we want everyone to stay safe while this horrible virus passes through but we can’t say that we aren’t looking forward to meeting up in person once again and enjoying a good cup of tea!”
