The Sensory Centre and Me - Nancy Aitken

Nancy Aitken, 76 years old tells us why she enjoys coming to the Sensory Centre. I make all different types of cards and sell them for £1.50 each.

“I enjoy putting wee embellishments on the cards, I do it for fun and I enjoy it.” Nancy has donated a total of £70 to the Sensory Centre.

I come to the Centre every Friday for computer lessons with Tom. I started coming to the Centre five years ago. “They make you feel so able because you are so restricted with your sight. Supernova is fantastic. Pity, it’s not cheaper as I’d have it at home.

Tom is fantastic.
“I have always done crafty stuff and could knit and sew before I started school. We used to knit socks for the troops during the war.

Computers open a whole new world for you and Tom is just marvellous!

“The people at the Sensory Centre are so kind, they really help you, like Alison, she helps me filling in my forms. It feels like I have a wee family here at the Sensory Centre. My husband brings me here every Friday.

“I used to be a florist before I started to suffer from macular degeneration and now I have other conditions among them, glaucoma.

“My children went to school with Alison (our receptionist). I would like to thank everyone at the Centre who has helped me.
“The computer lessons give me a reason to get up and get dressed. Every Friday is a social occasion for me.”
