The Macular Society Scotland is hosting a virtual Patient Information Event on Tuesday 21st June to help tackle some of the myths around macular degeneration.
Top of the list will be the fear of eye injections, a vital part of saving useful sight when treating wet age-related macular degeneration. Every day, around 300 people are diagnosed with macular disease. It’s the biggest cause of sight loss in the UK. Macular disease is cruel and isolating as it steals your sight, your independence, and your ability to do the things you love.
The condition attacks the central vision so people affected can have difficulty reading, be worried about trips and falls and have to give up driving, seriously affecting independence.
This event, will include a talk from a nurse injector who will explain the needle-to-eye procedure as well as Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology, Professor Baljean Dhillon of the University of Edinburgh. He will discuss some of the latest treatments available, as well as ongoing research into the fight against macular degeneration.
Macular degenaration can affect people of any age – even children – but not enough is known about why, and there is still no cure.
The Macular Society event will take place on both Zoom and telephone on Tuesday 21 June, 1-2pm. There will be a question and answer session following the guest speaker presentations.
To register for the event please email iona.mclean@macularsociety.org or call 07517 543 998.
For the event itself, if dialling in from a Landline the number to call is 0131 460 1196. You will be asked for the Meeting ID which is 850 2537 5425, followed by the hash key #.
