Stirling effort as bingo raises £700!

Members of the Stirling Blind and Partially Sighted Group recently raised over £700 for Forth Valley Sensory Centre with a charity bingo night at the Masonic Hall in Bannockburn.

The event was organised by Roberta Smith from Stirling who is a regular attendee at the Mayfield Centre where the Stirling Group meets on the second Tuesday of each month. In total, £710 was raised for the Centre.

The event was a real family affair as Roberta enlisted the help of her daughters; Senga, Anna, Sandra, Debbie and Janet and her twin nieces Agnes and June, her brother even took on the role of bingo caller!

A raffle was held with prizes galore which were gathered by Roberta and her family.  The total raised was more than anyone anticipated.

Roberta said:
“I arranged it to get recognition for our group as much as anything! I am still raising funds with other activities for the Centre’s Winter Fair on 25th November with a kid’s lucky dip, guess the doll’s birthday and our regular bottle stall so the bingo night is one of many things we are doing here in Stirling.

“I would like to say a big thanks to everyone who donated a prize, came along on the night or otherwise made it all possible though. It really was a great evening.”

The money will go directly to helping people who have sensory loss in the local area.

Centre Manager, Jacquie Winning said:
“It was a fantastic evening and it is great to see how much people value our work as a charity and are prepared to go to a great deal of effort to raise funds for us.  A huge thank you from everyone at the Centre to Roberta and her family who made this evening possible.

“All contributions make a real impact on the services we are able to provide. For example, donations help us to use our minibus to collect people from across Stirling and Dunblane to attend the group at the Mayfield Centre.

“Without it, costs might be prohibitive for people to come along and we know that all those who attend really enjoy the social occasion, catching up with friends as well as the activities, talks and outings.”

New members are always welcome at the group which meets between 11am and 1pm. If you would be interested in finding out more, call Brenda at the Centre on 01324 590 888 or email sensory@forthvalleysensorycentre.org

If you would like to donate to the Centre you can do so here. We’d also love to hear from anyone wanting to do a charity event or bingo evening! to raise money for us. You can drop ideas to the sensory@forthvalleysensorycentre.org email address.
