Technology supplier Sight and Sound are to hold an event showcasing technology for people with a visual impairment, including video magnifiers, scan and read devices and Braille products at Forth Valley Sensory Centre this November.
Taking place on 22nd November, visitors will be able to find out about and try a number of new innovations, including the new Orcam MyEye and MyReader device which scans and reads text yet is small enough to fit on a pair of glasses. The device can also be trained to recognise faces and favourite products in the supermarket, helping visually impaired people know when there is a friend in the room or easily pick out items in the shops as well as many other functions.
Martin Allen, Partnership Manager, Forth Valley Sensory Centre said:
“It is great that people in Forth Valley are being given this opportunity here at the Centre. This is the first event of its type in the area and follows successful events in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen.
“We know there are many people in Falkirk who are managing a visual impairment and this event is for them, their families and carers to come along and try some of the latest technology to make sure it suits their needs. As a Centre we are always looking for new ways to help people with any form of sensory impairment live as independently as possible.”
Other items on display include the new Ruby 7 HD portable near and distance video magnifier aimed at helping people read text or enjoy family images.
Ruth Gallagher-Carr, Business Development Executive, Sight and Sound said:
“This event has proven to be very popular across Scotland with many people amazed at how technology has developed to help them in their day to day lives and assist them with all manner of different activities.
“It’s a chance to find out what’s new, see demonstrations and be hands on with technology, plus have your questions answered by the UK’s leading supplier of technology for the visually impaired. This is an event for anyone with an interest in technology that helps people with a sensory impairment. Just drop in.”
Also at the event will be representatives from; Scottish War Blinded and RNIB Scotland’s Online Today Project, plus Action on Hearing Loss. All of whom can be found within Forth Valley Sensory Centre. Visit the Sensory Centre and find out what’s happening and tour the Action on Hearing Loss and RNIB Scotland resource areas for daily living aids.
