NHS Forth Valley Nutrition & Dietetics health improvement team were in the Centre recently to hand over certificates from their recent Food and Health (Nutrition) Course.
In total, 32 Staff and volunteers from a range of organisations recently gained this Elementary level certificate which is accredited by REHIS (Royal Elemental Health Institute of Scotland). The Forth Valley Sensory Centre in Camelon was host for the course and one of the participants was our own David Black, the cook in our Cafe. David, who is blind showed everyone that eating well and preparing your own food is something that almost everyone can do and enjoy.
A number of people recieved their certificates at the Centre or collected them on behalf of colleagues. Those attending spent time discussing all things vitamin and nutrition related as well as enjoying a wee snack.
The course is available for staff and volunteers involved in food activities and providing information about food to other people.
New courses open up on a regular basis and by the end of the course you will:
- Understand a balanced diet, including the ‘Eatwell Guide’
- Understand why food plays such an important part of life
- Understand the culture of the Scottish diet
- Understand the implications of an unhealthy diet
- Understand the energy requirements in different people an in stages of life
- Understand the nutritional information on food labels
- Understand the role of food initiatives in tackling the barriers to a healthy diet
