Malvina raises another £776 for the Sensory Centre!

Forth Valley Sensory Centre has received a donation of £776.20 from Malvina Dwyer as a result of her recent garden open day.
A Centre User herself, the money raised by Malvina will go towards the cost of the very popular lip reading group run at the Centre by tutor Jill Bradshaw. This is the second year in a row that Malvina has supported the Centre by opening up her award winning garden in Avonbridge and in the process she has raised almost £2000.

Centre Manager Jacquie Winning said:
“We can’t thank Malvina enough for her generosity. It sounds like a simple thing, opening up a garden to let people walk around and admire the flora but aside from the huge amount of work undertaken each year to keep the garden looking picture perfect, anyone who has attended the event will know Malvina goes a huge effort with raffles, tombola and the very famous home baking stall.

“Everyone at the Centre would like to thank Malvina for all her effort and I know that as popular and useful as the lip reading group is, this money will continue to make a big difference to people who are managing their hearing loss and trying to maintain their independence.”

Malvina was joined at her home and garden by lip reading tutor Jill Bradshaw and Centre Manager Jacquie Winning to hand over a cheque for the amount raised. Lip reading classes take place each Monday 6pm to 8pm at Forth Valley Sensory Centre although there is a waiting list to take part.

Malvina commented:
“I have always respected and admired the great work that the Sensory Centre does, encouraging people who might not otherwise be able to do so, to get out, socialise and learn new skills to maintain their independence.

“I have been opening the garden for 10 years and Forth Valley Sensory Centre is the only charity which has turned up to support me, helping out with setting up, stalls and baking and I am delighted to be raising money for such a great cause.”
Jacquie added, “That we have a waiting list at all shows how important and vital this service is to people in Falkirk and across Forth Valley.
