Hear David on RNIB Connect Radio

Those of you interested in cooking might like to pay extra attention to the new weekly recipies on RNIB Connect Radio, as they will be delivered by our very own David Black!

Each week, cafe cook David, will be talking through one of his (and our Centre Users) favourite recipies with particular attention to tips for blind and partially sighted people. David is lactose intolerant too so he will be providing alternative ingredient suggestions for those with dietary needs and there will be lots of food for vegetarians too!

Listen out each Tuesday to the Morning Mix from 10am with Jill Barkley, who has a mix of music and topical chat as well as magazine style features if you want to hear David but listen all week anyway to a great show for people with sight loss.

David commented: “When I was told I was losing my eyesight, that was it, there was nothing that could be done and it can be hard news to take. What wasn’t said it the time is all the things you can do as a blind or partially sighted person, with only a few adaptaions or with a little bit of help.

“I love cooking and it is like therapy for me. Getting a job as a cook was a real boost to my confidence and cooking helps me with my mental health and physical health as I make sure i get a really varied diet. I just hope other people listening to the show will be inspired to try a few recipies out. My top advice is don’t worry about making a few mistakes the first time, keep at it and you will find a way that works for you.”

You can listen to RNIB Connect Radio online or on Freeview Channel 730. To listen back to David’s first show, and hear about his Potato and Leek Soup, listen to the clip here.
