Firewalk Event Confirmed! 14th Oct

We now have a confirmed date and time and location for our fundraising Firewalk – 14th October, 5pm at Hillycows Wigwams just outside Edinburgh!

Here’s how the evening should look:

5:00pm – start, registration, payment and release forms.

5:30pm – Firewalk event begins. Introduction to Pauline the guide and her experiences of firewalking. Then an introduction to the concept and brief history of firewalking.  

At this point, participants will be invited to discuss some themes for the Firewalk; e.g. self-care, stepping into your heart, positive health and wellbeing, moving forward in life, power of the mind exercise.

5:45pm – Icebreaking exercise: each person share their name and personal intent for the Firewalk.

6:00pm – The fire is lit! The group set the energetic intent for the fire.

6:20pm – Comfort break

6:45pm – Lecture – this can take any form depending on the group and/or theme of the Firewalk and can include:

Guided visualisation/meditation – Vision boards, each person is given an A3 sheet of paper, some crayons, felt tip pens, pencils to draw/write what they would like to manifest in their lives.  This is taken home after Firewalk.  

Shamanic journey – people are invited to get themselves into a comfortable position. Encouraged to relax and follow the sound of the drum as it supports them to access their inner wisdom.

Air dry clay models – people can create a visual representation of their positive intentions.

7:45pm – Fijian ceremony explanation followed by Fijian preparation ceremony.

8:00pm – start to build the energy towards the Firewalk.  Answer any final questions.

8:15pm – Open up the fire for walking

8:45pm -9pm closing talk.

Every effort will be made to make sure the experience is as inclusive as possible for all participants and the above is a guide only. The nature of the lecture and exact timings will change depending on the group’s wishes.

Creativeness is encouraged within the workshop space so that as many people as possible can be empowered to live life to their full potential and this will be the first with people who have a sensory condition and feedback will be appreciated.

Running times on the Firewalk need to be flexible as each Firewalk is different, and each Firewalk group brings their own energy to the ceremony. The intention setting workshop continues from around 6:45. This is a chance to think about changes you want to make in your life, setting goals and then work on building group positivity through a Fijian ceremony until the fire is ready to walk on. It’s kind of difficult to give exact times because each aspect of the experience is unique to each group and can take different lengths of time depending on each group.

Firewalk Costs

The important bit. This is a fundraising exercise for the Sensory Centre as much as a great evening out and a fantastic life moment. Everyone who takes part is committing to raise at least £120 in sponsorship. This is the minimum amount possible to make the event worthwhile for the Centre. As you can appreciate the costs associated with an event like this are significant. We believe that our event offers excellent value for money in a great location.

There is a maximum of 20 places and a minimum of 15, again, to make the event worthwhile for the organiser but also to keep the group to a manageable level and help everyone participate fully on the night.

The Centre uses MyDonate as an online fundraising system (not Just Giving which is expensive) so feel free to register there and share your fundraising on social media.

In addition to the Firewalk itself, Hillycows is a 5 star ‘glamping’ campsite. There are wigwams available for the evening at an additional charge if anyone wants to make more of their night and stay over. These are of course on a first come first served basis and would be booked directly with the site owner although we are trying to negotiate a wee discount for firewalkers.
