Our friends over at Deaf Action have a new online befriending service for D/deaf, deafblind and hard of hearing people. They are also looking for volunteers to support the new service.
The befriending service is available across Scotland but volunteers from Forth Valley would be welcomed. Befrienders can stay in touch via Zoom chats, email, text messages or even letters to tackle isolation and loneliness during the Coronavirus outbreak.
At our Centre we have been reaching out to our Centre Users with sight and/or hearing loss over the past few months and we know there are lots of concerns, especially around the increased use of facemasks which inhibit lip reading and social distancing. There are even questions about how Track and Trace is used to contact D/deaf people. Our partners Action on Hearing Loss are looking into that particular issue and RNIB have campaigned strongly to support people with sight loss. We have supported these, and other, highly effective campaigns.
