The recent Mad Hatter's Tea party, our first virtual fundraising event, was a great success raising over £160 for our groups and classes as well as seeing one attendee crowned as the 'Mad Hatter' thanks to their amazing headwear.
Bonnets, Bowlers and Boaters aside, the centre of any Afternoon Tea is of course the food. To this end, everyone was over joyed. Praise for Cafe Supervisor Carol included "What a spread!", "I'll be sharing this with my family" and "There is enough here for a couple of days!".
The event ended with a round of applause for our typically shy Carol who waved away the thanks with her usual modesty. Once everyone had begun to tuck in, it fell to host, Chair of the Centre Board, Pat Reid, wearing a fetching Beret with French decorations and a fake moustache, to discuss the millinery that had been brought to the party.
Several people had gone for hats which reminded them of special places or people with Australian style cork hats joined by fuzzy Stetsons and character hats. The winner however was Mr John Ormsby, a regular Centre volunteer during open days he had created (with a little help) a perfect Afternoon Tea hat with pictures of biscuits, cup and even a teapot all attached.
Mr Ormsby quipped: "Some people might say I had an edge on the others, Mad Hatter is typecasting for me!"
Fundraising Manager, Martin Allen added: "John wins vouchers for Forever Living by Mhairi Coleman, who has supported a number of events at the Centre in the past. We wanted to be sure to try and buy local and help people who have helped us in the past. We hope John enjoys his prize!
"This was our first virtual event so a fairly small scale but it went really well. Great hosting from Pat and it was nice to see people joining in, swapping jokes and of course enjoying their food! To raise over £160 into the bargain is fantastic too. Watch out for more events coming up over the next few months. They will be advertised on here as well as our facebook page. Just search for Forth Valley Sensory Centre.
"In the meantime, if cake is something you have had too much of over lockdown, what about signing up for the Virtual Kiltwalk? A great way to support us and burn calories!"
