Edinburgh Fringe 2019

The Edinburgh Fringe 2019 opens 2nd to 29th August. This year, the festival of arts, theatre, comedy and more promises to be the most accessible ever.

Not only has the Edinburgh Fringe 2019 once again teamed up with our friends over at Neatebox, allowing you to let venues know about your needs discreetly before you arrive, but they have made it even easier to find accessible performances.

This a new search filter has been added to the Fringe website with the intention of it being it may be easier for D/deaf or hard of hearing audiences to find suitable shows (alongside the BSL and Captioning search filters). The new filter is entitled ‘Hearing Not Needed’ and a list of included shows can be found here:

Further information on assistance which is available for those who would like to attend the Edinburgh Fringe 2019 is below. The Fringe Society operates the Access Bookings Service to specifically handle access enquiries and bookings. The Access tickets service is available to anyone who:

– Would like to book specific accessibility services, eg a hearing loop, audio description headsets, captioning units or seating in relation to the location of the BSL interpreter

– Requires specific accessibility information for each venue

– Requires extra assistance when at a venue, including avoiding waiting in queues and busy environments

– Has specific seating requirements

– Is a wheelchair user

– Requires a complimentary personal assistant ticket to attend a performance.

Sensory backpacks will also be available for those who may find the Fringe a stressful sensory environment. These can be collected and deposited at the Edinburgh Fringe 2019 shop on the High Street and other venues throughout the city.
