New Martial Arts Fitness Class

Forth Valley Sensory Centre has a new Martial Arts Style Fitness class starting on 18th July. The class is led by instructor David Black and takes place 5:30pm-6:30pm. This first block of classes will be free!

David is adding to his successful Self Defence and Personal Safety Classes with this new Martial Arts Style Fitness course, hoping to make it more accessible to people who have daytime commitments.

The classes will be adapted to support people with sight loss although the class is open to everyone. There will be warm ups, boxing and pad work as well as knee, elbows and other Martial Arts Style Fitness exercises.

Instructor David is blind himself and has been working hard to make sure the classes are open and accessible to all. He has been supported by The Scottish Centre for Personal Safety who run similar classes at their base in Ardrossan.

David commented: “I know from experience that group classes like this can be difficult for people with sensory loss. Often is is about following in instructor with little chance to interact with other group members. This class will be different and has been specially designed to be accessible to people with sight and hearing loss.”

In addition to the Martial Arts Style Fitness class, the next block of Self Defence Classes are moving to a new home! Classes will now take place on Thursday 11:30am-12:30pm. Learn about the law, how to get away from potentially harmful situations and what to do should you be attacked. This includes quick methods to get away, including the use of improvised weapons and other tactics.

Classes are free and limited to ten places. Contact sensory@forthvalleysensorycentre.org or call 01324 590 888. You can also reach us using the ContactSCOTLAND service if you need BSL support.
