We had the first of our Christmas Dinner celebrations last week, with the Braveheart Group enjoying their festive meal courtesy of Carol! We have a few more to come up this week, so everyone is certainly feeling festive around here! This is also your last week to be in with your chance of winning a hamper, we have three hampers we are raffling off for £1 for 1 strip or £5 for 6 strips, this will be being drawn at the end of this week on the 16th.
On Monday our Choir will be doing the second of their performances, we are heading out to Forth Valley Hospital in Larbert where we will be performing in the atrium from 10.30am. The choir are really looking forward to this and will have an additional performance at Morrisons Falkirk next Monday on the 19th as well.
The lip reading peer support group will also be meeting on Monday from 11am-1pm. This is a relaxed, laid back group of ladies who meet to practice their lip-reading skills. This will be their last meeting of the year, and they will reconvene in January.
Our Knit and Natter Group are celebrating their successful Winter Fayre stall and having festive buffet for their last session from 1pm-3pm. This group love knitting, crocheting and most definitely enjoy a good natter. This group is open to all, including beginner knitters or people looking to regain confidence having lost their sight. An interpreter is provided for these sessions.
The lip reading class will also be back on Monday evening from 4pm-6pm. This class is led by lip-reading tutor Jill Bradshaw and is for people who would like to learn and practice lip-reading. Lip reading can be a particularly useful skill for people to learn after losing their hearing or if they have auditory processing problems. Get in touch if you’d be interested in learning more.
On Monday evening the Voices Off British Sign Language classes will be on from 6.30pm-7.30pm. This class is also open to all, including complete beginners, this is the perfect group to learn and practice BSL. For more information on this group please contact Allan at allan.simpson@falkirk.gov.uk.
Tuesday sees our Stirling VI Group heading out to the Gallery at Forth Valley College for their Christmas Dinner. The group are all looking forward to this delectable treat! This group meets on the second Tuesday of each month and are normally based at the Bellfield Centre in Stirling.
Our IT Classes will be on their usual sessions. These run Tuesday 1pm-3pm and 3pm-5pm, Thursday 1pm-3pm (college only, this class is closed to new interest at present), and Friday 1pm-3pm. We will have spaces on our Tuesday and Friday classes for anyone who would like to learn more about computers, tablets and phones and their accessibility features. Class costs £5 for fully supported expert tutelage. Interpreter can be provided on request.
Wednesday sees the return of our History group and also the reknowned speaker Ian Scott! He will be giving us a talk on local Falkirk History with focus on Sheriff Court and the route up through the High Street. The group meet from 11am-12pm, and is open to all. An interpreter is available.
On Wednesday our BSL OAP group will be meeting at their usual time from 12.30pm-2.30pm, this will be their last session of the year, they will reconvene on 11th January at the usual time.
Also on Wednesday, Slimming World will be meeting from 5pm-8pm. Drop in is available. For more information on this group please contact Sandra on 07803 172441.
Thursday the Braille Class will return from 10.30am-12pm. This class is led by tutor Christine Moroney and runs weekly term time. The braille class will then being enjoying their Christmas Dinner alongside the IT Class. Enjoy!
The Youth Group is back this Friday for it’s usual session from 6pm-7.15pm. This group engages in a range of different activities, and this week we will be making hot chocolate and marshmallow snowmen! From P7-S6, if you are D/deaf or have sight loss or are the friend or family of someone with D/deafness or sight loss then this is the group for you! This will be their last session of the year. Youth Group will return in the new year, date tbc.
The Deaf Club meets on Friday for their usual session from 7pm-10pm. This will also be their last session of the year, they will return on 6th January once the centre reopens.
