Remember our cafe is open to the public Monday-Friday from 9am-3pm so why not pop in for a warming soup and a treat!
On Monday the Lip Reading Peer Support group will be meeting from 11am-1pm. This group meets fortnightly and is a chance for lip readers to practice their skills with one another.
The Knit and Natter Group will also be meeting on Monday at the slightly later time of 1.30pm-3.30pm for this week only. This group is open to all and free, though you can buy refreshments from the cafe. If knitting, crocheting, or blethering is your thing then this is the group for you!
David’s Keep Fit Class has a new day and time! Starting today he will be running his martial arts style keep fit class from 6.30pm-7.30pm. These classes are open to all fitness levels and abilities and will run weekly for £2 per session.
Voices off British Sign Language class is back this evening as well from 6.30pm-7.30pm. This class is open to all, whether you’re a complete beginner or already learning, this is the perfect class to come along and learn and practice BSL. On Tuesday our Book Group will be meeting for their monthly catch up from 10am-11am, where we will be discussing ‘Vanishing Point’ by Val McDermid. This group meets both in person and via zoom, sources books from RNIB Talking Books and local library services, and is open to all. We meet on the third Tuesday of every month. Keep an eye out on social media for the groups’ roundup later in the week.
IT Classes are back this week after the half term break. These run Tuesday 1pm-3pm and 3pm-5pm, Thursday 1pm-3pm (college only, this class is closed to new interest at present), and Friday 1pm-3pm. We will have spaces on our Tuesday and Friday classes for anyone who would like to learn more about computers, tablets and phones and their accessibility features. Class costs £5 for fully supported expert tutelage. Interpreter can be provided on request.
The BSL OAP Group will be in earlier for a special session with Ian Carmichael from 11am-12pm, they will then have their usual session from 12.30pm-2.30pm.
The Lip Reading Classes led by Jill Bradshaw have now moved to a Wednesday evening from 4pm-6pm. This is open to anyone who might like to learn to lip-read, a valuable skill worth learning but especially helpful for those learning to deal with loss of hearing or have audio-processing issues. Thursday the Braille Class will return from 10.30am-12pm. This class is led by tutor Christine Moroney and runs weekly term time.
The Braveheart Group will be leaving the centre for their usual walk from the centre at 11.30am on Friday. This is a leisurely walk around the local area that lasts approx 45-60 minutes with the option to pop into Cafe Tiki for some lunch and a cuppa afterwards. Sighted Guides provided if necessary.
Please note there will be no Youth Group this week due to staff holidays. We will return on the 28th October at the usual time from 6pm-7.15pm. This group is open to P7-S6 pupils with a visual impairment or D/deaf and their friends and siblings. We have a range of activities available.
The Friday Deaf Club meets on Friday for their usual session from 7pm-10pm.
