Our Group Coordinator is back from gallivanting around New York this week (so too is our Sight Loss ambassador back from her holiday in Greece) and we have another busy week ahead of us! Remember that our Cafe Tiki is open Monday-Friday 9am-3pm, our cafe is open to all and serves a fantastic array of savoury and sweet food!
On Monday the much anticipated return of the Choir is happening from 10.30am-12pm. Our Sensory Singers are a laidback group that like a variety of songs. The group meets fortnightly, costs £5 and is led by Choir Leader Aimee Toshney. New members welcome, group is open to all, large print and braille copies of lyrics can be provided.
Also on Monday our Knit and Natter Group is back from 1pm-3pm. If you enjoy knitting, crochet, or just a good blether then this is the group for you! This group is also open to all, with an interpreter available. No group cost, but refreshments can be purchased from the cafe.
Voices Off British Sign Language Class is back on Monday from 6.30pm-7.30pm, this is an informal BSL practice session for all levels of signers including complete beginners. If you’d like more information on this class please contact Allan Simpson at allan.simpson@falkirk.gov.uk.
The IT Classes are running on their usual sessions. These run Tuesday 1pm-3pm and 3pm-5pm, Thursday 1pm-3pm (college only, this class is closed to new interest at present), and Friday 1pm-3pm. We will have spaces on our Tuesday and Friday classes for anyone who would like to learn more about computers, tablets and phones and their accessibility features. Class costs £5 for fully supported expert tutelage. Interpreter can be provided on request.
The BSL OAP Group will be back on Wednesday for their usual session from 12.30pm-2.30pm.
On Thursday the Braille Class will return from 10.30am-12pm. This class is led by tutor Christine Moroney and runs weekly term time.
The Braveheart Group will be leaving the centre for their usual walk from the centre at 11.30am on Friday. This is a leisurely walk around the local area that lasts approx 45-60 minutes with the option to pop into Cafe Tiki for some lunch and a cuppa afterwards. Sighted Guides provided if necessary.
The Youth Group is back this Friday for it’s usual session from 6pm-7.15pm. This group engages in a range of different activities. From P7-S6, if you are D/deaf or have sight loss or are the friend or family of someone with D/deafness or sight loss then this is the group for you!
The Friday Deaf Club has also been running through the summer and will continue on this Friday for their usual session from 7pm-10pm.
A reminder as well that the Sensory Room is open to the public every day for one hour sessions, these cost £6 regardless of area travelled from.
