The usual summer wind down is beginning, but not to worry we have lots of fun things yet to come!

The Lunch Bunch is back! We’ll be having Quiche with salad and Crusty Bread, then Eton Mess for the bargain price of £6.50. This group will take place from 12.15pm-1.30pm.

The last of the lip reading classes with Jill is this evening from 4.00pm-6.00pm. These classes are open to anyone, though they can be particularly helpful for people who have lost their hearing in some capacity or might have audio processing issues. If you’d like to learn more about lip reading or if you’d like to sign up for future sessions, please get in touch.

Monday Voices Off class happens this evening from 6.30-7.30pm. This is a weekly, conversational British Sign Language class that is open to anyone who would like to learn some basic BSL. Please contact Allan for more information on spaces at allan.simpson@falkirk.gov.uk.

Also this evening our Talk and Sign group will be back from 7pm-9pm for another session with art tutor Val. Last month we did weaving, this month we are looking to do some 3D art involving cardboard tubing and wool, check out our Talk and Sign page here for the end results: https://www.facebook.com/groups/563620681215344

On Tuesday our book group will be meeting to discuss The Pearl by John Steinbeck and Blue Above the Chimneys by Christine Marion Fraser. This group meets both in person and online from 10am-11am on the third Tuesday of the month. Open to all, we source our books from RNIB talking books and local libraries. This group will pause for July and return in August when we will be discussing ‘Hunting Icarus’ by blind author Gordon Anthony.

Also on Tuesday we will be hosting our very own comic book event! Sara has been working with Windsor Park to develop a climate comic which will be showcased here at the centre. This event is fully accessible with audio description and interpretation available. The children will give a short presentation and then there will be the opportunity to explore their storyboards and hear a bit about their development process. There will also be other stands at the event relating to us here at the centre and the environment. This will run from 1pm-3pm.

The IT classes are on this Tuesday at 1pm-3pm and 3pm-5pm, and Friday 1pm-3pm. These classes will be winding down for the summer next week, but if you are interested in learning more about IT, including accessibility around tablets and phones, please get in touch. Classes cost £5.

The BSL OAP Group will be meeting for their usual session on Wednesday between 12.30pm and 2.30pm.

Also on Wednesday our Art Group will be back for it’s last session before the summer break from 1.15pm-3.15pm. This group meets fortnightly, costs £5 which covers costs of materials and expert tutelage by our wonderful Val Martin. We try out many different art forms so if you’d like to try your hands at arts and crafts this is the group for you!

The Braveheart Association still have their weekly walk which meets at the Sensory Garden every Friday at 11.30am. This is open to all, and is a leisurely walk around the local area that lasts around 45-60 minutes.

On Friday our Youth Group will be back for their last session for a little while, from 6pm-7.15pm. This week we will be cooking with our DeafBlind chef David Black in our brand new kitchen!
