As always, another fun filled week for us here at the centre!
The Lip Reading Peer Support Group will be meeting on Monday from 11am-1pm, this is a small group that meets fortnightly to practice their lip reading skills.
Jill will be back with another lip reading class from 4.00pm-6.00pm. These classes are open to anyone, though they can be particularly helpful for people who have lost their hearing in some capacity or might have audio processing issues. If you’d like to learn more about lip reading or if you’d like to sign up for future sessions, please get in touch.
Monday Voices Off class happens this evening from 6.30-7.30pm. This is a weekly, conversational British Sign Language class that is open to anyone who would like to learn some basic BSL. Please contact Allan for more information on spaces at allan.simpson@falkirk.gov.uk.
On Tuesday we are rounding off Volunteers Week with a Thank You Barbeque! We have lots of fun in store, including a visit from Cycling Without Age who will be giving us a shot of their trishaws (and giving you a chance to volunteer for them as well if you wish!). This will be taking place from 1pm-3pm, so in light of this please note that the Sensory Garden will be closed to the public on Tuesday from 12pm onwards.
The IT classes are on this Tuesday at 1pm-3pm and 3pm-5pm, Thursday 1pm-3pm and Friday 1pm-3pm. There are still spaces on our Tuesday classes, so if you are interested in learning more about IT, including accessibility around tablets and phones, please get in touch. Classes cost £5.
Wednesday our History Group will be taking a trip to Bannockburn Heritage Centre where we will be getting a talk on armoury and weaponry (and a chance to handle some replicas!). An interpreter is provided for this group. We will be meeting here at the centre at 10.15am to get to the Bannockburn Centre to start our tour at 11am.
The BSL OAP Group will be meeting for their usual session on Wednesday between 12.30pm and 2.30pm.
Also on Wednesday our Art Group will be back from 1.15pm-3.15pm. This group meets fortnightly, costs £5 which covers costs of materials and expert tutelage by our wonderful Val Martin. We try out many different art forms so if you’d like to try your hands at arts and crafts this is the group for you!
The Braille Group is back this week on Thursday from 10am-12pm. This is a college led class. If you are interested in learning more about learning to read and write braille please contact us on the information below.
The Braveheart Association still have their weekly walk which meets at the Sensory Garden every Friday at 11.30am. This is open to all, and is a leisurely walk around the local area that lasts around 45-60 minutes.
On Friday our Youth Group will be back for their weekly evening sessions from 6pm-7.15pm. This week we will be playing outdoor games with Laura Kemp from Youth Scotland. This group is open to p7-S6 pupils with sensory loss and their siblings/friends. Get in touch for more information.
Also on Friday our Gaming Group will be taking place from 7.30pm-8.30pm. We work with the excellent Triple Tap Tech with this group who will let you know about different accessibility features and encourage some competition as well! This group is open to p7-S6 pupils with sensory loss and their siblings/friends.
The Deaf Club will be back to their usual slot from 7pm-10pm on Friday too!
