Some people might be aware but Scottish Government are creating a new payment called Scottish Carer’s Assistance.
Our friends Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland want to hear what unpaid carers who also have sensory loss think about the plans. Sensory Loss covers Blindness, Sight Loss; Deafness; Hearing Loss; Deafblindness; and Dual Sensory Loss, including British Sign Language (BSL) users. The online event takes place 17th May, 2-4pm and BSL support is provided.
Carer’s Allowance is a payment of £67.60 a week to support some unpaid carers who care for someone for at least 35 hours each week. Scottish Carer’s Assistance will replace Carer’s Allowance in Scotland. At first, it will be very similar. One change the Scottish Government wants to make is paying £10 a week more to unpaid carers who care for two people.
The Scottish Government wants to make more changes to Scottish Carer’s Assistance in the future. These include letting unpaid carers earn more money or spend more time learning whilst still getting the payment.
This event is an opportunity to make sure the Scottish Government hear what you think. You don’t need to be getting paid Carer’s Allowance already. The Alliance will include your feedback in a report to the Scottish Government. They will not use your name or give any recognisable information about you.
For more information and to sign up, see The Alliance website here.
