Flour to the People!

Our friends at Forth Environment Link have teamed up with Scotland the Bread to work with them on their latest community-led project called;

Flour to the People

This is an innovative project born out of the disappearing loaves and flour from the supermarket shelves, we all witnessed during the first lockdown back in March 2020. This project aims to give people back the long-lost skills of quality breadmaking as well as tackling issues around food insecurity.

As you may know, breadmaking and baking more generally have long been used as an antidote to mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, and stress. The act of making bread can help people feel grounded which in turn, reduces stress levels.

The project itself couldn’t be easier to get involved with. We have multiple spaces available, with each person receiving a breadmaking pack as well as recipe instructions and a link to a video that takes participants through a step-by-step process of making their very own sourdough bread. Sourdough has often been touted as something reserved for the middle classes, but this project is all about showing people how easy it can be to make fresh, nutritious bread in their home.

After the participants have made their bread, they will be invited to a one-off Q&A session via zoom with Scotland the Bread. Here, they will be given the opportunity to share their experiences of making the bread and get some tips and advice from the experts themselves.

If you are interested in taking part, take a look at the website or contact Julie at FEL by email.
