Time for Afternoon Tea

Forth Valley Sensory Centre is celebrating after the Afternoon Tea event on 18th September raised over £1000 for the local charity.

The event saw guests partake in sandwiches, cakes and drinks as well as enjoy a fashion show courtesy of Next at Falkirk Retail Park. Other local companies, chipped in to make sure the day went with a bang, with Findlays providing cakes and crockery, Tesco donating food, The Park Hotel supplying tablecloths and Camelon Church for crockery and chair covers.

A volunteer army staffing the event included volunteers from DWP and St Mungos School in Falkirk and saw a number of budding fashion models take to the ‘catwalk’. These included Jill Hendry (22) from Falkirk who is registered blind and was guided on the day by Christie Frail. Jill starts a course at Stirling University in the near future but is going to be studying English rather than fashion for now!

She was joined by Kat McLaughlan, who has recently received a cochlear implant to help with her hearing loss as well as Angela Crossley and Natalie Mcmeechan from Next and Jacquie Winning, Manager of Forth Valley Sensory Centre.
Several other local businesses supported the event with very popular stalls placed throughout the Centre.

Lynne Frail, Fundraising Coordinator for the Centre who organised the event said: “This was an exceptional event and really showed off the Centre in a great light. It was a sell out for weeks in advance and several people commented that they would have happily paid much more for their tickets.

“That success is down to our volunteers and the organisations that helped us out to make it all possible. Without them this simply would not have happened. To have raised £700 is a lovely boost for the Centre and the money will go back into services for sensory impaired people in Falkirk and Forth Valley.”

Stalls present on the day were: Honey Bee Boutique, Bow Diva, Picture This by Loretta, Mind Over Matter Hypnotherapy, McFudge, Bijou, Phoenix Cards and Culture Clothing.
