Carer Advice for phoning deaf people

Carer Advice for people working with deaf people, particularly using phone and video calling has been put together by Ideas for Ears.

The informative videos, discuss how telephone befriending and care services can be difficult for people with hearing loss and also provides practical tips to involve everyone.

Due to the Covid-19 crisis, many services, including our own here at Forth Valley Sensory Centre have moved to phone based support. This helps cut down on unnecessary journeys, means that those who are shielding or are more isolated can see or speak to different people when needed and ensures everyone has the support they need.

However, many older people will have more than one condition to manage. A fifth of over 75’s will have some form of hearing loss and can struggle to use a phone or get to grips with different technology without a clear demonstration.

This carer advice helps those working with people who have hearing loss to understand some of the problems that can come up and also some of the solutions.

You can access the full 40 minute video in one or it has been broken up into three smaller pieces if needed.

You can access all the carer advice on the Ideas for Ears website here.
