Thursday 1st August
Bikes without Barriers is starting their next six week block of adapted cycling tomorrow! If you would like more information please contact Alan Greenhill at alan.greenhill@falkirk.gov.uk or on 07850 250566.
Following the programmes launch and come and try day two weeks ago, we are pleased to now be taking bookings for the Bikes Without Barriers programme. Starting from this Thursday (August 1st) and running for six weeks until Thursday 5 September. There will be three sessions available each week, all of which are free of charge to book onto.

Sunday 4th August:
Get Out Get Active (GOGA)–Forth Valley Big Bike Revival! Taking place at Falkirk Stadium, this is a drop in session from 10am until 2pm. This event is inclusive and open to all. They looking forward to welcoming new people to try our solo & adaptive bikes, join a led ride, visit Dr Bike, enjoy the pump track and more…

Thusday 8th August:
You Can’t Drink From an Empty Cup–Tide is running a Wellbeing for Dementia Carers session from 10am-1pm, followed by lunch at Robertson House in Glasgow. This is for carers and former carers of people with Dementia. Expenses will be paid, and interpreters will also be available. For more information visit: www.tide.uk.org. There is quick turn around on this one so if you would like to attend please confirm by Thursday 1st August.
Sunday 11th August:
Ardtalla Garden Open Day–a tribute to Malvina Dwyer. Lord and Lady Westerlea are cordially inviting you to their Garden Open day in Slamannan on Sunday 11th August from 2pm-5pm. There will be delicious home baking, a raffle, and a tombola. Entry costs £5.00 which includes refreshments, you can purchase tickets from the centre. All proceeds from this event are being divided between Forth Valley Sensory Centre and S C Air Ambulance. Give us a shout if you are interested.
Saturday 17th August:
Deaf Photography Day in Edinburgh–This is being organised by BDA Deaf Association Scotland and is for people aged 8-20. There is a BSL video explaining what kind of camera equipment is required here:

Edinburgh Fringe Accessible Shows
Monday 5th August–BSL interpreter.
Auditioning for Drama School. Free event. Venue: Workshop Room, Fringe Central, Appleton Tower, Edinburgh, EH8 9LE
Description: This practical workshop will provide insight, tips and hints about how to maximise the participant’s potential for success when auditioning for acting courses. Although it focuses on the RCS’ BA Acting programme, the workshop is useful for anyone considering auditioning for drama school. It will include a presentation and Q&A, and offer the opportunity to participants to workshop audition speeches. The leader of the workshop will be Associate Head of Acting at RCS, Ali de Souza, and there will be a BSL interpreter present.
Saturday 10th August–BSL Performance at 1415–this show is accessible to all.
And the Birds Did Sing:
‘This is about living but it began with a death. This is about existing and not existing, and a child’s heart-bursting belief that there is something in between. This is about choosing and sometimes having no choice. This is about love.’
A woman remembers a girl who knew a woman who listened to the birds. Inspired by the depth of feeling in those tiny moments of knowing that the world would never be the same again, this evocative solo work has been developed through the ongoing collaboration between choreographer Christine Devaney, musician Luke Sutherland and artist Yvonne Buskie, exploring the connections and interplay between music, dance and the origins of stories.
Our BSL performance will take place on Sat 10th August at 14:15 at Dance Base Studio 1 (Venue 22). The performance will be signed by Rachel Amey and the box office will be able to provide more details on request.

Sign language meets puppetry in Shinehouse Theatre’s engaging, BSL-signed production Fish, based on a short novel by the revered Taiwanese author Huang Chunming. Revolving around the expected delivery and unfortunate loss of a much-desired fish, the conflict between a grandfather and grandson unfolds in a touching, richly sensory experience for d/Deaf and hearing audiences. Shinehouse Theatre specialises in creating inclusive, socially-conscious performances. Here, in its European debut, it draws upon diverse skills to shine a warm and loving light on the subtlety and complexity of generational differences.

Hot Coals Theatre’s magical and charming Deaf accessible show is heading to the Edinburgh Fringe this summer. Using clown, mask and the company’s own unique style of visual story-telling, Knock Knock tells a story of love, shattering gender roles and societal expectations, capturing audience’s hearts and inspiring them to always be themselves – whatever happens.
Knock Knock has been created to be completely inclusive to both d/Deaf and hearing audiences, and while created for adults, is suitable for all ages. The company have taken out all spoken and signed language, creating their own visual and universal language on stage, with every sound cue matched to a lighting or visual cue on stage, creating a shared experience between d/Deaf and hearing audiences.

Drinking and Unemployment: a new play about work. Caleb Rutherford, a sociologist from Clyde, NC, has come to this hall tonight to share his work on professional deformation, the study of how jobs change people over time. One actor portrays the sociologist from Clyde, NC, a musician from Dublin, a training consultant from Bath, an actor from Glasgow and an analyst from northern Spain. Based on real interviews, real people. It’s funny, and it’s moving, it’s always surprising.

Ultimate Dancer: ‘For now we see through a mirror, darkly’ The show was made with the integration of audio description and captioning which describes and interprets that which cannot be seen, but is present. The description explores the more abstract elements of the choreography and is an integral artistic element in the performance.

Scotland’s brightest new talents, The Network, take on the cliques in a homage to classic coming-of-age movies.
Eight young people gather in a student cafe where they form alliances, fall in and out of love, and learn from the friction and energy created between one clique and another. With a sound track that will take you right back to the tears and triumphs of finding your place in the world, The Brunch Club, challenges expectations and exposes the limitations of judging a book by its cover. Site-specific masters and seven times Fringe First winning Grid Iron, in co-production with SDTN and Pleasance Futures, transform Levels Cafe-Bar for a vibrant exploration of the continuing need to label ourselves in uncertain times.
