The People’s Stories project, is a innovative plan to record interesting moments from the lives of people that you might never have heard of.
People’s Stories is delivered by the Scottish Book Trust and Falkirk Community Trust and funded by the Scottish Government.
Three Centre Users, Laura, Christine and Lawson have all recorded their stories and more are on the way.
Laura spoke about her cycling in a very powerful and moving video called Scotland the Brave. For her People’s Story she recounts losing her sight but finding a new life cycling, first with her husband and eventually in competition, including the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
Long time Centre User and braille tutor Christine also spoke about a world sporting event. Blind from the age of three, Christine has never let her sight loss hold her back and in 2012 was nominated to carry the Olympic Torch as it made its way to London for the Games. She recounts the experience in her People’s Story:
Finally Lawson takes a poetic turn. Talking about how interacting with the Centre has made such a difference to her. In Lawson’s People’s Story, we hear about ‘Vision without Sight’ and how she has adapted to the world around her with the support of family, friends and her own determination.
