Bogus caller Incidents: 1st October- 30th October 2017
Over the past month the incidents of note involving Bogus Caller activity have all been either phone / or social media related.
1) iTunes: Previous information sent our re this fraud type, however a new scam coming to light is contacting victims by phone with regards to new loan applications and thereafter requesting “admin charges” payable by ITune vouchers. Despite the victims not applying for loans they are stiil going ahead and making payments by this method. No bank or financial establishments will ever request payment by this manner
2) Victims being contaced via Facebook intimating that they could apply for a CASH PRIZE in excess of $45,000 (Fifty Thousand Dollars), despite the fact that they hadnt entered any competitions etc. However to get the CASH PRIZE you have to transfer money to specific addresses in USA. The fraudsters thereafter makes contact again requesting more funds be transferred and this continues until the victim realises that this is a scam
3) Victim received call from a male person who was claiming to be from the victim’s bank. The caller advised victim there was an issue with his bank and that he had to transfer funds to sort out the issue. The victim has agreed to this and transferred the money as requested. The victim has thereafter been held on the phone for several hours while more requests for money has been made. Banks and financial establishments will never ask for your banking details in this manner.
