To celebrate #DeafAwarenessWeek some of our volunteer BSL speakers went along to Next Fashion and Home stores at the Retail Park in Falkirk to provide some BSL training.
The team taught staff signs for different colours and sizes as well as welcoming people to the store and essential finger spelling as well as top tips on helping someone from the deaf community in store.
Next Home Store Manager Lynne Ferrie said:
“It was great to see so many staff here on their days off. We take customer service very importantly here at Next and it shows the dedication and interest in the team that they really wanted to take part today.
“We’ve added an extra level of service to each staff member. Our team is now much more aware of how to approach members of the deaf community and much more confident that they will be able to deliver the service everyone expects from Next.
“A huge thanks to Stacy and Alison too for their great demonstrations and presentation.”
Deaf Awareness Week runs to 21st May this year and is about increasing understanding of the limitiations that deaf people can experience in day to day life and then removing those barriers. If your organisation is interested in training for staff, in BSL or simply helping hard of hearing, blind or partially sighted people, please get in touch with the Centre.
