Thank you to everyone who came along to our first Winter Fayre since 2019 on Friday, we all had a fantastic time and made a whopping £1648! This will go towards the continuation of our groups and classes and general running of the centre so thanks again to all! Our Hamper raffle will continue to run untl the 16th December so there’s still a chance to win one of our three festive hampers!
This isn’t the end of our Winter Festivities, with many groups still to enjoy a Christmas dinner or buffet and our Choir still has two outings to go! The Sensory Singers will be at Forth Valley Hospital on Monday 12th and Morrisons Falkirk on Monday 19th, both performances will start at 10.30am.
Onto this week though!
On Monday our Lip Reading Class has a change of day once again! They will be meeting this evening from 4pm-6pm, and classes will continue on a Monday evening for the rest of the sessions. These classes are for anyone who would like to learn lip reading, and is particularly beneficial to people with hearing loss or audio processing difficulties.
Also on Monday evening, our Voices Off British Sign Language class is on from 6.30pm-7.30pm. This class is open to everyone and is a fantastic way to learn or practice BSL. If you’d like to learn more about this class please contact Allan Simpson at allan.simpson@forthvalleysensorycentre.org.
Our IT Classes will be on their usual sessions. These run Tuesday 1pm-3pm and 3pm-5pm, Thursday 1pm-3pm (college only, this class is closed to new interest at present), and Friday 1pm-3pm. We will have spaces on our Tuesday and Friday classes for anyone who would like to learn more about computers, tablets and phones and their accessibility features. Class costs £5 for fully supported expert tutelage. Interpreter can be provided on request.
On Wednesday our BSL OAP Group will be heading out to the Park Hotel for their Christmas Dinner, all the arrangements are already in place, please contact Ann Lavery or Frank Swift for more information! Transport has been organised as well.
Also on Wednesday, our Art Group will be meeting form 1.15pm-3.15pm. Led by art tutor Val Martin this group mostly do tactile art pieces but are open to a range of different art styles. This group meets fortnightly and costs £5. An interpreter is available for this session.
Also on Wednesday, Slimming World will be meeting from 5pm-8pm. Drop in is available. For more information on this group please contact Sandra on 07803 172441.
Thursday the Braille Class will return from 10.30am-12pm. This class is led by tutor Christine Moroney and runs weekly term time.
Also on Thursday, our volunteer led Voices Off class is on from 11am-12.30pm. This class is open to anyone who would like to learn or practice British Sign Language including complete beginners. This is a laidback group that allows group members to learn at their own pace.
The Braveheart Group will be leaving the centre for their usual walk from the centre at 11.30am on Friday. This is a leisurely walk around the local area that lasts approx 45-60 minutes. Sighted Guides provided if necessary. The Braveheart group will be enjoying their Christmas Dinner after the walk this week!
The Youth Group is back this Friday for it’s usual session from 6pm-7.15pm. This group engages in a range of different activities, and this week we will be making hot chocolate and marshmallow snowmen! From P7-S6, if you are D/deaf or have sight loss or are the friend or family of someone with D/deafness or sight loss then this is the group for you!
The Deaf Club meets on Friday for their usual session from 7pm-10pm.
