Can you believe we are on the last week of September already? We have another busy week ahead of us this week, check out below to see if anything takes your fancy!
On Monday our Sensory Singers Choir is back from 10.30am-12pm. This group is open to all, meets fortnightly, and costs £5 per session with our wonderful choir leader Aimee Toshney. The group sing a variety of different songs and even work towards performances in the local area.
Also on Monday the Talk and Sign Group are having their monthly meeting. This evening we’re off to Sustainable Thinking Scotland at Kinneal Walled Garden in Bo’ness from 6pm-8pm. We will be going for a mindfulness walk around the area and then coming back inside to make some hearty vegetable soup! This group usually meets on the third Monday of each month, check out our Talk and Sign page for more information on the group.
Voices Off is also back this Monday after an unexpected two week break! This conversational British Sign Language class is suitable for absolute beginners as well as people who would like to practice their BSL with other people. This class meets from 6.30pm-7.30pm. If you are interested in the class please contact Allan at allan.simpson@falkirk.gov.uk.
On Tuesday our Centre User Group meets from 10am-12pm, this is a bi-monthly group that allows our group members to have their say on things that are happening at the their centre and help shape the groups going forward. We welcome as may voices as possible so if you’re interested in having your say get in touch. This group meets five times throughout the year, an interpreter is provided.
The IT Classes are running on their usual sessions. These run Tuesday 1pm-3pm and 3pm-5pm, Thursday 1pm-3pm (college only, this class is closed to new interest at present), and Friday 1pm-3pm. We will have spaces on our Tuesday and Friday classes for anyone who would like to learn more about computers, tablets and phones and their accessibility features. Class costs £5 for fully supported expert tutelage. Interpreter can be provided on request.
The BSL OAP Group will be back in for their usual session from 12.30pm-2.30pm.
Our Art Group is back on Wednesday from 1.15pm-3.15pm. This group costs £5 and is led by expert tutor Val Martin. If you like arts and crafts then this is the group for you!
Thursday the Braille Class will return from 10.30am-12pm. This class is led by tutor Christine Moroney and runs weekly term time.
Also on Thursday, our volunteer led Voices Off class is on from 11am-12.30pm. This class is open to anyone who would like to learn or practice British Sign Language including complete beginners. This is a laidback group that allows group members to learn at their own pace.
The Braveheart Group will be leaving the centre for their usual walk from the centre at 11.30am on Friday. This is a leisurely walk around the local area that lasts approx 45-60 minutes with the option to pop into Cafe Tiki for some lunch and a cuppa afterwards. Sighted Guides provided if necessary.
Unfortunately due to staff shortages we are unable to go ahead with our Youth Group and Gaming Group this week. We will return next week for our usual Youth Group session from 6pm-7.15pm when we will be joined by the lovely Sarah Stow from Falkirk Community Learning and Development Team!
The Friday Deaf Club meets on Friday for their usual session from 7pm-10pm.
