Falkirk and Stirling Council Social Work Services work in partnership to deliver social work services to people with sensory impairment.  The team are based at Forth Valley Sensory Centre.

The team work closely with Ophthalmology and Audiology colleagues as well as the social work locality teams, to make sure that a “joined up” service across health and social care is provided.

The social work services team works with Adults and Children and have very good links with Windsor Park School and Children’s services.

All staff have specialist training to work with people with a sensory impairment and we have staff trained in BSL, hands on signing, deafblind manual and lip speaking.  All staff have also had sighted guide training.

The team aims to promote people’s continuing independence, reduce risks, make home environment and going out safer, and to reduce isolation and anxiety.

Blind and Partially Sighted Services

Falkirk and Stirling Council Sensory Services Team offers advice and guidance and assistance to adults and children with a visual impairment. We can provide; an assessment based on sight loss needs, appropriate equipment and training to help you regain independence and quality of life.

The team have close links with other social work teams, other Council departments, Ophthalmology, Windsor Park School and NHS Disability Service and will be happy to sign post and refer to other services.

•    Mobility training to improve confidence and independence
•    Daily living skills
•    Appropriate equipment to support independence  

Advice, information and support are available for family and carers of people who have a sensory impairment.  Carers’ assessments can also be completed.

Our aim is to support you to maintain independence and build confidence whilst managing your visual loss.

Are you Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Deafened or Deafblind?

Would you like to speak to someone about your hearing loss?

The Sensory Services Social Work team can provide support to children and adults who are deaf, deafblind or hard of hearing as well as their families and carers.  We can provide:

•    communication support in BSL, Deafblind Manual, Hands on signing and Lipspeaking.  
•    an assessment of your needs in relation to your hearing loss including advice on managing hearing aids.
•     advice and information in relation to equipment that may be available to aid your hearing loss and reduce the risk to safety.

Our aim is to support you to maintain independence and build confidence whilst managing your hearing loss.

Falkirk and Stirling Council Social Work Team provides a service for children with a sensory impairment and their families/carers.  An assessment of need can be provided including advice, support, information and equipment.  The team also have close links with education and health and can sign post to additional services.
