Glasgow Speakers Club recently took a group of people with sight loss to the Scottish Parliament to give talks on how losing their eyesight has affected their lives. Centre User, Laura was one of those taking part in the RNIB supported course and gave her talk on 10th September.
We originally advertised the course on our website here and it is great to have heard the end result. An elite paracyclist, Laura competed at the Commonwealth Games in glasgow having taken up tandem cycling after losing her sight to Retinitis Pigmentosa, or RP as it is commonly known.
In linking with the Glasgow Speakers Club, RNIB aimed to help blind people become more confident about speaking in public and The Scottish Parliament provide a fitting finale for the weeks of work that had gone prior
Centre Manager, Jacquie Winning commented:
“This was a fantastic day out. Not only did some of our Centre Users get to go along and support Laura but they also heard some fantastic speeches from the Glasgow Speakers Club team. The stories were emotional, inspirational and brilliantly presented.
“There was also an opportunity for our visitors to experience the debating chamber and get a quick tour of the Parliament building. Well done again to Laura and all the speakers for a great event.”
For anyone interested in hearing Laura’s speech, she has agreed to repeat it at our Open Meeting and AGM this October. Be sure to monitor our social media pages; Facebook and Twitter. Plus the What’s On section of the website for more information nearer the time.”
