Forth Valley Sensory Centre

Gardens, funding and fun!

There is a lot happening at the moment, despite the summer break. Our Sensory Garden is looking better each day and we have some new funding announcements for groups and lots of fun things going on around the Centre. Here’s a quick round-up!

Groups and Classes

First of all, and not so fun, is the news that our Reading Group run by Falkirk Libraries, will be off for August but will return in September. This is a great group who enjoy a wide variety of audio books. The next meeting before the break will be Tuesday 24th July at 10am. The cost is nothing, free zero or zip so if you want to broaden your reading horizons, meet some great new people and enjoy some discussions around the different books covered, this is the group for you.

We also have our Voice’s Off Cafe, for people wanting to learn some basic BSL skills, from real BSL speakers over a tea or coffee then come along, each Wednesday in August from 11am to take part. Cost is again, free but there is a suggested minimum donation of 50p for a hot drink.

Fun and Funding

First up we have the Afternoon Tea and Bake Off on Thursday 19th July 1pm – 2pm. The cost is just £8 per person with lashings of tea (or coffee) cakes, sandwiches and savouries prepared by our Café team. We’re also looking forward to some delicious Bake Off entries and attendees will get to be Mary Berry for the day (or Paul Hollywood if you prefer) and judge the entries. A great family afternoon so get your tickets quick! Call reception on 01324 590 888 or email

Next up we have the final ever opening of Malvina’s Garden to the public. This takes place, Sunday 5th August, 1pm-4pm. Entry to one of the area’s best kept gardens, featured in books and on TV is just £3 for adults or £2 for concessions. Home baking and tombola also available on the day. All welcome although wheelchair access is very limited.

Our Connexions group have had a recent donation of £800 thanks to the family of one of the group who completed a 10k run. The group intend to use this money for group activities. A massive achievement in this recent glorious spell of good weather. The Group will be taking a short summer break, with the next session on 27th September, 6.30-9pm.

Cafe and Garden

The hot weather has resulted in many a red face coming into our Cafe. We’ve been serving up a real treat, ice cream cones or tubs from just £1! Great value! We’ve also taken delivery of some great new chairs and tables for our Sensory Garden, so you can sit out and enjoy your refreshments in comfort while the kids have some fun. Cafe and Garden open Monday to Friday from 8:45am.
